January Book

One of my goals this year is to read a book a month.  I did! Well, at least I got started on the right foot.

Steady Days by Jamie C. Martin

If you're a mom, especially a mom of young kids, likely the title alone is appealing to you.  Many of my days seem anything but steady.  Can anyone else relate?  I've had this on my Amazon wishlist for a couple years now and received it as a surprise Christmas gift.

The premise of the book is intentional motherhood, with ideas to develop a pace for your day, capture memories, and stay inspired in mothering.  Jamie is a mother of 3 and an adoptive mama (3 kiddos in less than three years) so I'm confident she is writing from experience.  She also has a great blog: www.steadymom.com.

A few highlights for me:
*It's a super quick read with short chapters, allowing me to squeeze in a chapter or two if I only had a few minutes to read.
*The idea of a Steady Blessings Book--a great idea to get our kids involved in recording things they are grateful for.
*I loved this reminder: "I love reading biographies of world-changers like Mother Teresa, Martin Luther King, Jr., and William Wilberforce.  Their stories remind me of the broader perspective behind my mothering.  My daily work is impacting future world-changers." (from the chapter "Inspirations and a Steady Heart").  What great perspective and a fabulous reminder!
*She does a great job of giving tips and tools for getting organized and creating a Steady Routine and the benefits of such WHILE still being flexible and enjoying motherhood.

I would love to pass this book along to someone who is interested and who needs some encouragement to implement a steady routine into their days.  First interested commenter, it's yours!

And the book on tap for February?  The Disconnected Kid by Dr. Robert Melillo.
A total switch from the previous but so far I'm finding it fascinating.

What are you reading?

Hi Linds,

I'm catching up on all my blog reading today. I can't believe no one has commented yet! I looked this book up at my library, but they don't offer it, so I would love to read your copy if it's still available.

Take care!
